ADDITION (OR SUBTRACTION) OF ALGEBRAIC FRACTIONS STEP BY STEP

The objective is to join the two fractions into one and then simplify the resulting fraction, but to be able to join them both must have the same denominator, for which the first two steps are performed. Once joined, we must develop the numerator, convert it into a simple polynomial and decompose it in order to simplify the fraction.

Prerequisites : To know how to find the least common multiple of several polynomials, how to operate with fractions , how to multiply, add and subtract polynomials and how to simplify polynomial fractions.

We decompose the denominators into factors:

We reduce the fractions to common denominator :

       We join the two fractions:

          Multiply the polynomials:

We remove parentheses by applying signs if applicable:

        We reduce similar terms:

We factor in the numerator :

          We simplify the fraction:

this is the result.
